today was only our 3rd day of school and we have loads of readings to finish by saturday already. we got to meet some of our teachers. we also met avena, the controversial teacher who allegedly gave half her evidence class a 5 last sem. it was torture, the whole one hour in the classroom we spent waiting for her. i [ and some of my blockmates ] had cold sweaty palms; i felt my stomach turning the whole time. gawd it felt like i was going to die. the stories we hear about her just get worse everyday. so you could just imagine our surprise when she came to class all smiling and perky. i was so shocked i think i was just eyeing her quizically the whole time, waiting for her to take off her jolly mask and probably bring out a shotgun and shoot us one by one. she seems like a good teacher, i just hope she's fair with the grading [ i.e., that she won't give any of us a 5 ]. last wednesday, we met our agency and partnership teacher. i thought she was just the teacher's assistant because she looks pretty young [ and she looked kikay at that ]. 'turned out she's the professor. it felt pretty strange having her for a teacher especially with all the ancient professors we've been having for the past semesters, but it's a refreshing change nonetheless.
i want to have a part-time job. something more attune to my hobbies/interests [ art, photography, web design, ek ek ]. but i don't know if i'm skilled enough in anything anyway. speaking of photography, there's this one-day fashion photography seminar in shangri-la on dec. 17, friday. i'm not sure if i'm going yet. i don't know how i can find time to pursue my interests with the kind of subjects and teachers we have this sem. plus the damn property removals two weeks from now. hay.
this is a nice prayer our philo teacher [ sir garcia ] back in 3rd year college shared with the class. i lost my copy, so i looked it up in the net [ i was going to give it to neil, he needed a prayer for school ], and here it is.
Disturb Us, Oh Lord
~Sir Francis Drake's Prayer~
Disturb us, O Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves;
When our dreams have come true,
Because we dreamed too little.
We arrived safely,
Because we sailed too close to shore.
Disturb us, O Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess,
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity.
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, O Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push us into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
We ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus

i may not have gone to the beach or flown to the states or worked out in the gym consistently as initially planned, but i was able to watch at least one gig. last saturday, neil and i [ me the pathetic band fanatic ], went to the admit one 3rd anniversary party at freedom bar. we had dinner first at gayuma before the concert. we were actually one of the first ones to arrive at the venue [ aside from the bands. but doh. ], being the dorks that we are. the doors weren't even open yet. but at least we were able to get good seats and we found a good parking space downstairs without any hassle. we had a good time anyhow despite the fact that we left early. we got to see some of the best bands in the lineup. i wanted to capture the whole atmosphere, but the best i could do was to take pictures. i liked the effect of the lighting on the pictures - it looked as if the whole stage was on fire. anyway, hairy dawgs was the first group to play. for those unfamiliar with the band, it's a purely instrumental group which uses only drums of different sizes plus some tambourines and whatever to add to the beat. they played on for more than 30 minutes [ their arms probably hurt like hell afterwards ]. we also got to watch dicta license, which i haven't seen in a long time [ they rarely play since the lead started with law school in ateneo. damn law school. hehe. and unlike me, he's probably happy with it ]. galing. too bad they don't do covers of songs by incubus/a perfect circle anymore. i liked their original tagalong song, which they played for the first time also last sat. [ the only tagalog song they ever composed ]. sun valley crew was there. if i'm not mistaken, i think they're the same hip-hop group that sang "a lighter shade of brown" back when i was in 6th grade. i used to like that song [ well, along with "heaven knows" by southern sons among others ]. being the "hip-hop" group that it is, it seemed surprising that svc was actually in the lineup when all the other groups are rock bands. i guess the "hip-hop vs metal" war of the mid-90's is finally over [ bwahaha. it's probably the silliest conflict i could recall ]. i think the rock band actually complemented the hip-hop vocals. giniling festival was a disappointment [ my apologies to fans of this group hehe ]. they played rock, jumped around the stage, acted like idiotic drunks and made no sense at all. i think they were trying to be funny, but it didn't work [ at least on me ]. i don't know why, but parokya ni edgar carries idiotic acts pretty well. hehe. imago played also! i was so ecstatic to have finally watched them after failing to watch the album launch. they played 30 minutes earlier because cambio wasn't able to play. they sang one of my favorite filipino songs at the moment [ "taning" ]. i think it's the only serious/[ emo? ] song they played for the night. their other songs reminded me so much of no doubt's first album [ all perky and hyper ]. i like how the lead sometimes yodels their songs. there was little yodelling at the concert though. they had the energy level of b-52's at the time and sounded less like cynthia alexander, as in their previous album. happy meals played as well. 'haven't seen this band for quite a while. the last time i watched them [ also at freedom bar ], the lead singer wasn't around and some guy who doesn't know how to sing at all took his place. 'got mesmerized with the way the bassist handled the guitar. basta, galing. i wish i could hear them do a cover of dmb - the vocalist sounds a lot like dave matthews.

i just love pinoy bands. watching such great talents and witnessing their many supporters make me more proud that i'm filipino. i think we will be self-sufficient even without the influx of foreign bands. but of course we still need them for influence. hehe. wala lang.
we met weki in the middle of the show. too bad we weren't able to watch sandwich, twisted halo and sugarfree. :( but watching half the show was worth every peso anyway. i also got myself a sandwich shirt which was bright yellow and has a spoof of the skyflakes logo in front. i wanted to go shirt and indie [ hehe, fave word ni neil ] cd shopping, but i only had 200 bucks left in my wallet. i think the anniversary has a second part at saguijo cafe in makati on nov. 20. i hope i still have time to go out on that date.
siyangapala pasukan na bukas..
in around 12 hours, i'll be back in law prison, lugging around the same books, being humiliated by professors, confronting grades of 3's and 4's in my card once again. the funny thing is, i am not alarmed by the imminence of reality. instead of fixing my stuff and having panic attacks, i'm here, happily surfing the net and blogging as if i'm still halfway through the sem break. gawd.
at least i got to buy six more boxes to fill with cases and stack in my room. hay.
we didn't push through with the la union trip, which leaves me more time to do other things. although i really wanted to go to the beach [ and try surfing again hehe ], i was also relieved that we weren't going to la union. maybe the thought of travelling for 4 hours on the road is just too tiring, or i just feel too fat to fit in any swimsuit. hehe.
i won't be able to use my recently purchased frogeye camera, though.. oh well..
so yesterday, i enrolled for the second sem, no matter how sick i am of law school. i got my grades also. i got a grade of 2 for the other subjects. i'm just glad i'm not the lowest again in those subjects. damn property. and sales. we found out that our second sem grade is worse than the first sem - we have three classes on saturdays. aaagggghhhhh. i hate it how everytime i go to school on saturday morning, i see students in casual attire, going with their parents somewhere to play badminton or whatever. i can't feel the weekend anymore. it has become numb like a leg that has been sat on for too long. the worse part is, we got avena for civpro, the professor who flunks half of his students every sem. goodbye social life. [ what social life? ] goodbye long hours of sleep. i'd better stock up on coffee [ although it barely works on me ] to stay awake.
afterwards, we ate at the old spaghetti house at katipunan with mama, neil, oggs, grace and nico.
what to do on my last 3 days of freedom
i can't believe the whole break is ending. anyway, this is what i'm doing with the very limited time i have:
make my room at least livable. fix old cases. the damn law books, cases, etc. are taking up more space in my room than anything! i thought putting the papers in little boxes would minimize space, but i think it just made my room look more crowded.
Go to the Admit 1 party tonight. i just got this from one of the e-groups. i was so frustrated that i wasn't able to go to the imago launch last night, which was held here in fairview, so i'll make sure that i'm going to the admit one concert. sulit talaga yung lineup. imago's playing again! along with other great bands:
You are invited to the Admit 1-2-3 Party! Join us as Admit One celebrates its 3rd year anniversary with:
attend art class tomorrow. i attended art class last wednesday. and mr. sena pointed out to me this one student, who, apparently, is an RTC [hanging] judge, who's a UP alumni. i always feel intimdated with the presence of such people. i tried not to look at her direction the whole time [ she was across me ], scared that she would eat me alive. hehe. sir even joked that i might turn out to be a judge in the future also. hwahaha.
study for property. kidding.
watch movies! neil and i watched the first half of kung pow yesterday. hehehe. it's probably the best no-brainer i've ever seen.
wala lang shots
i just love my digital camera.
the first two were taken at greenbelt cinema.

patti celebrated her halloween themed party last sunday night [ any other theme suggestions for a birthday that falls on the eve of all saints' day? ]. it was probably the first time she actually requested for a full blown party - complete with the invites, the decorations, etc. it was supposed to be a costume party, but only some of the kids [ and the family ] came in costumes. i couldn't think of a costume to wear, so i just came in the outfit i wore in church earlier that day. i'm so boring. anyway, the whole party turned out to be a success, patti was very happy the whole night, all the kids were playing, we enjoyed the food [ we made 2 - no, 3 - trips to the buffet table ]. the hours neil and i spent in making the happy b-day sign and the confetti paid off. hehe.
it was nice seeing all the kids having fun at the party. i think some of them only met that night, but they were already playing and laughing like they've been classmates for a long time. being a kid is so much simpler. being the naive people that they are, they don't worry about what others might think of them. as long as they have a common ground [ i.e., playing ], there seems to be no reason for them not to interact. la lang.
my sister wore a black cape and a mask, bombee wore an evil doctor outfit [ not shown in pic. but it's in the yahoo album ], and patti wore a witch costume. they would've passed as the addams family, but bianca came in a shimmering, pink princess aurora [ a.k.a. sleeping beauty ] outfit. hehe. ang arte talaga.
neil and i watched before sunsettoday at greenbelt. last night we saw sky captain at megamall. i liked them both [ for lack of a better compliment ]. there was also a vcd sale at megamall yesterday. we were able to buy kung pow and love story for 75 bucks each. 'haven't seen either, but we'll find time this week [ as if i have any other choice ].
i'm obviously making the most out of the remaining days [ 6 days to be exact, counting from tomorrow ] of my sem break. i don't know if i'm just being pessimistic, but the whole break was disappointing. in other words, i wasn't able to maximize the short time doing worthwhile activities. for one, i spent half of it sulking about law school and my property grade; 1/3 of it at home, sick; and probably the rest of the time sleeping. i shouldn't even be making up for lost sleep because i never lacked sleep even when i was in school. it will be more difficult for me to adjust once school starts because now i sleep for more than 9 hours a night. dati, kaya pa ng 6 hours. once, we went out at night and i was already feeling sleepy at 9 pm. lola na talaga ako. i'm also often too tired to get up, too tired to fix my room. i only went to the gym once, and i ended up sick afterwards. i only made one drawing in my sketchbook journal and it's not yet halfway done. i haven't taken much pictures either. my room is still a mess. i haven't seen a single gig. i wasn't able to wallclimb, play ultimate disc, try go karting. we might try surfing again in la union this weekend, but i don't know if i've gathered enough strength to lift myself and stand up on the surfboard. i'll probably end up lying on the board again until i reach the shore.
and i'm not looking forward to law school [ so what else is new ]. just when i thought it couldn't get any worse, well, it did. our sched sucks. we still have a saturday class. actually, we have 2 saturday classes. that cuts our short weekend even shorter. and we have classes until 6 pm. for most of the week. i don't know when i'll be squeezing in gym time. also, i read through the block e-group that we have two terror teachers, one of them is disini, the teacher i bumped into, literally, the first day of school last sem. he didn't say anything, but he eyed me like he wanted to push me off the second floor. it was scary. he's even teaching labor. i used to like the subject [ i seldom do that in law school ], but with him teaching, i don't know anymore.
well, good luck to me. as for my other plans on the last remaining days [ para bang mamamatay na ako? well, close. hehe. ], good luck na rin to me. and to all the others [ esp. those in law school ] enjoying their sem break, make the most out of it before all hell breaks loose once again.
