  ready, set, draw

Posted by Hello

well, it isn't much, but this is my first sketch journal entry. i made this months ago, right after i bought the havaianas flip flops at the mall.

coincidentally, a challenge was posted in the everyday matters group for the members to post their favorite shoes. so, here it is. i love this pair because it makes me look a few inches taller, it's so comfortable, it's durable, and easy to clean. it also matches my laid back look [ read: pambahay. hehe ].

notice the beach theme? i miss the beach. AND i wish it were summer already. i hate law school [ so what else is new :P~ ]. i also drew the sarong nico gave me two christmases ago. :D

for other artsy news...

awhile ago, i attended my second to the last session of art class. mr. sena taught the tempera technique in watercolor, which i really want to master. the technique, to quote our art guru [ hehe ] is very minimalist, but the end result has the same effect as oil paintings. basta, it's all in the hand stroke. he made it look so simple, he finished each drawing for less than 10 minutes. i haven't tried it yet, but i will when i find the time this weekend.

i also manifested my intent to become an illustrator, and i was able to talk to one of the teachers who is an expert in that field. he was surprised at first why i wanted to be an illustrator, when i'm in law school. i think he was implying that being an artist is not as lucrative, but i clearly pointed out that i'm not going to quit law school, i just want to draw for children's books or whatever along with my [ aimless ] pursuit in law school. i'm glad that he and this other teacher were happy to help, and they were eager to give their advice on the matter. the thought of being an "artist" excites me. i want to enroll for advance 1 level already [ i'm almost done with beginners' level ]. i guess mr. sena's right - you don't have to go through a fine arts course when you can learn everything you need in art workshops. so i guess i'll just continue with the workshops [ despite my dad's protests ] and practice a lot. because i think enrolling in an art school in place of law school is definitely out of the question.

speaking of art school...

i was telling my mom the other day that my brother wanted to enroll in an art college. i was hoping she'd show some support to him and me, but nooo..

me: gusto raw ni nong mag-art course ah

mama: mapagkakakitaan ba yun?

me: uhh.. ewan.. baka pag nag-graphic design siya..

mama: ah yung computer?

me: oo. pero gusto niya ata painting. ako rin, gusto ko mag-art college sa states.

mama: hmp, bahala nga kayo.

heehee. oh well. so much for that. i understand why she exhibits such violent reaction though.

we watched the phantom of the opera at robinson's metro east earlier with grace, nico and oggs. i liked it! the actress/actor who played christine and raoul made such a perfect pair. except there were some parts when they REALLY didn't need to sing... afterwards, we were joking that our next recitations would be in song, as inspired by the movie. hehe.
