  random thoughts again

the 2nd civpro midterm exam was scheduled today, but due to a twist of fate, it's postponed indefinitely. yey! i know my initial reaction of "God is good" when i found out that we don't have classes because the marines have attacked fort bonifacio is so wrong, but i couldn't help it. especially since i haven't studied for the exam despite my ample time to do so last weekend. i spent the whole day last friday at home. i wasn't allowed to go out because of the coup attempts so i ended up downloading photoshop brushes and making that banner at the top of my page. hehe. it actually took me only a few minutes to do it because it didn't require much effort/photoshop knowledge, but it did take me a long time to download nice brushes from sites which i will link soon. last saturday, i was scheduled for fitting for a dress i'm wearing in 7 days. hehe. i also found out i grew by half an inch on the waist and top. waaahhhh.. i can't even go to the gym to burn the extra fat. and i keep on eating the lindt chocolate leftovers from mustafa mall. and i even have the guts to choose a tube dress. the last thing i want to do is look like a sack of rice on ball night.

about the decisions i was deliberating on in my previous post - needless to say, i'm retaking the midterm exam. at least now i have more time to study [ yeah right ]. about the ball, i decided to take neil with me, and he already bought a matching dark plum polo and black shoes. add some green accent and we would look like a pair of walking eggplants. hehe.

by the way, i haven't written about the close to you aftermath. haha. i watched it with daisy and chi in power plant [ chi watched it for the 2nd time hehe ]. girl falls in love with [ feeling ] rock star, rock star falls in love with girl, girl ends up with the best guy friend [ for life ] she has been ignoring because of rock star boy. oh i'm sorry, i spoiled the ending. i'm so sure you didn't expect that twist. :P anyway, there was this mom in front of us who got pissed of because daisy, chi and i kept on talking throughout the film. i wanted to tell her the movie was already ruined before we spoiled it for her, but judging from her sharp glances it seemed like she was liable to bite our heads off and wasn't amenable to compromise. hehe. must've been the president of the sam milby fans club. the movie just made us want to scream "oo na, bibili na kami ng toothpaste niyo.. just make the movie stop.." and having the "close to you" song as the object of your last song syndrome is plain...bad. and it's unanimous, everyone hates bea. at least john lloyd's jolog lines and melanie marquez's presence genuinely made us laugh. and i'm glad they chose sam milby to play the balikbayan guy, instead of some obviously barok kid forced to speak in slang. plus some of the scenes were shot in sentosa, singapore which i identified excitedly. hehe.

some more reasons why i didn't get to study the whole weekend:

my cousin manang val came here from the states with her husband, raffy, also my uncle jesse. we spent the whole day yesterday eating. :P i noticed, they always come at a time when i'm loaded with schoolwork. the last time they came here for vacation [ scroll down to 16.02.03 ], i wasn't able to go with them to highlands because my groupmates and i were finishing our thesis. grabe. it's been three years..

hehe it's nanang again. wala talaga akong kwentang apo.

i should be studying now, but i don't know why i feel so laid back when i have two exams this week and am even arranging the reviewer for one subject.. hay..

i'm hungry. i want to eat a lot of carbs. but i caaaan't. in a few minutes, i know i will give in anyway.. hello sack of rice..

isa nanamang walang kwentang post. wag na basahin.

i was half asleep this morning when i heard my nieces' voices in the house at 6 am. they're supposed to be in school, but apparently, it was announced on tv that classes are cancelled for elementary and high school students [ like i care, i don't have classes every friday anyway. heehee. besides, i study in UP, so even if the rest of the schools in the country suspended their classes for the day, we still have to go to school ]. i thought it was another one of those wishy washy class no class/non-working holiday announcements by our president (i know edsa day's tomorrow, they probably moved it again today) until i found out that it was because of certain goings on in the city, about a possible coup d' etat and crap.

pfft. as if i don't have enough problems of my own. [ gosh, am i sounding like a black hole? or worse yet, the black hole? hehe ] ANYWAY, there are certain decisions that i just have to make, and being the indecisive person that i am [ to the point that i became overreliant on tossing coins in some of my minor/major decisions hehe ], it's very difficult for me to do anything else until i decide on them.

for one, there's the civpro midterms. we had the midterms last week, but we all did poorly in the exam, so our teacher is asking if we want to retake it, but this time it will be an objective [ read: worse ] exam. i don't know if i want to retake it, but i know my first exam was horrible also. and the coverage for the second exam is even longer, and i don't want to study anymore because i know that even if i study i still won't do well [ i think i studied enough but it is not reflected in the results ]

and then there's the winlaw ball. i was set on going stag since i thought most of us are going without a date, until i found out that the people without dates comprise a minority. and all the other winlawers [ outside our barkada ] are looking for dates. i tried to think of people i can drag to this thing, but my brain is as empty as it is every time i'm asked a question during recitation. shucks. it reminds me of the time in third year high school when i actually whipped out a piece of paper and wrote down the possible dates i can bring. the list turned out to be a joke because half of the people there [ well most of the people there ] didn't even know i existed and it even included jakob dylan of the wallflowers. bwaha. to make a long story short, i skipped the prom altogether. hayy. ano bahhh. i was going to ask my mom to go ask my childhood crush [ he's also in the same high school prom date list haha olats talaga ako :P ] if he can come, until i realized he already has a wife and child. bwahaha. ang tanda ko na. i still don't know if i'm going with someone, but ever i am, i don't know who. ano buh, this is so high school!!

and i'm getting fatter every day!! [ hehe i should stop whining like a bratty little girl ]

and there are other uncertainties in life, like the specpro final exam. it's supposed to be on march 4, but we want it moved to march 9 because we haven't studied yet and i'm still arranging the reviewer.

aghhh. and i' have a stomachace. i don't know if this is hyperacidity or purely psychological as caused by stress.

last night, at tiendesitas:

  valentine's week
first of all: happy birthday grace!! *ahem*libre*ahem*

watching "close to you" starring john lloyd cruz, sam milby and bea alonzo and "i will always love you" starring richard gutierrez and angel locsin [ si angel naman daw yung mahirap sa movie, in contrast to their old movie the name of which escapes me at the moment :P ], dressing up, having a romantic dinner for two with a special someone, receiving a bouquet of unreasonably expensive flowers, getting a box of chocolates...

...are just some of the things i didn't do on valentine's day [ or singles awareness day/SAD for most people ]. well at least my two teachers didn't show up the whole day [ the first one due to hypertension, the second one due to habit ]. also, we got to have lunch at chateau verde in UP with some of my blockmates. and i did actually get a small box of chocolates courtesy of the owner, who gave one to all the ladies in the resto. hehe. the rest of the day, i just tried to study for the civpro midterms, satisfied my bratty side and bought me a 2nd pair of chucks [ which fits more perfectly than the other one i bought in singapore ], then turned in early.

  singapore baby!

so last weekend, i gave up my three days of study time (bwaha) and one hour of specpro class to go to singapore with my mom and sister. it was actually a sponsored trip by mead johnson for my sister and other doctors, they had a lecture series last friday. my mom and i just tagged along with her (and benefited from all the free meals and free transpo). the three day trip is not enough, what with all the food, sights.. i would've wanted to join the city tour and night safari, but my companions would much rather go shopping. we didn't even get to see the new merlion at the singapore river [ although we were able to see the old one ], which is actually what they show on cable whenever the country is being promoted. [ well, they also show boracay and palawan to showcase the philippines on cable, but i've been to neither.. ]

the whole trip was great though. it was, by the way, my first time to set foot in that country. singapore's just oozing with first world goodness. the city looks like one big greenbelt complex, with modern buildings + shady trees. and every corner is just squeaky clean. the place is so small that a lot of events are happening at the same time a few meters away from each other. plus, we came at such an eventful season - chinese new year [ hence, there's a sale everywhere ], the indian procession, and the singapore idol auditions. haha. the population is a healthy mix of mostly chinese and indian residents, plus some filipinos and westerners here and there. the climate is very humid and unpredictable though, but i'm used to that kind of weather so it's okay. i'm somewhat aware of their strict rules, so i was very conscious on keeping all the small trash and crossing the streets when the pedestrian green light is on even when a handful of people are patently violating such rules.

we stayed at the le meridien for three days. i was a bit disappointed with the room though, i was expecting 5 star quality since it is a 5 star hotel. [ they don't even have cable. ] until i found out they have a 6 star hotel. but we were out of the hotel almost the whole day anyway, except last friday when my mom and i slept through the afternoon while my sister was at the convention.

mr. quek, our tour guide

because i'm not very good with writing things chronologically and in the attempt not to sound boring, here are some highlights of the trip:

food. [ food is always a highlight everywhere i go ] i'm happy because food is always no. 1 in our priority list. hehe. singapore makes this country look like it's short on restaurants. every block has a restaurant or two, and there's a wide variety to choose from. and they're all filled up late at night - people are still gorging on food at 11 in the evening. all the restaurants included in the package tour are great - from the breakfast buffet at the hotel to chinese/singapore restos we ate in. despite the fact that most of what we ate were swimming in oil, i loved them. one of our lunches was not covered by the package tour, but it was paid by mead johnson. mas masarap ang libre. hehe. i was full for a whole three days, i felt so fat the whole time that i vowed to start gym the next day after i arrive [ and that is today. heehee. ]. and i feel that there we weren't able to try a lot of other things, like the local street food and the sidewalk ice cream sandwich.

haha. best pic. at lei garden, where we had lunch/dinner. eto pa isa:

i feel like my english proficiency was really put to the test during our three days there...

sentosa. sentosa's an island a few miles away from the city. i think it was completed just recently, last year if i'm not mistaken. we rode a cable car from the city to the island, 'rode the tower thing, 'saw the underwater world, 'had our pics taken with the merlion. we didn't watch the fountain show anymore as it was too late and we still had more important things to do like eat.

i even saw a friend i've met in disc, bell, while we were on the bus on our way to underwater world. good thing we missed the first one and were forced to take the next, or i wouldn't have seen her. small world. :D

shopping. i wasn't able to shop much because of the limited time. but i got myself a pair of laceless chucks [ which i think is a size bigger. agh. i've been meaning to buy that since last thursday in eastwood. basta. long story. ], some shirts at samuel and kevin for only sing.$7 each, a shirt from bossini, a school bag [ and it's reversible! ] and a pair of black gauchos on sale at dorothy perkins. i walked all the way to the two floored topshop in isetan. they had a lot of pieces on sale, but they're pretty much the same like the ones in manila so i opted not to buy.

Image hosting by Photobucket

little india. my mom and sister and everyone else just loved the mustafa mall [ sounds like estafa. wala lang. ]. i wasn't particularly very happy with it because they don't have good selection of clothes. i bought some food there though, and some souvenirs. but i wouldn't spend several hours in that place; there's too many people, nothing much to see [ to add to that, i don't like the smell :P ]. anyway, on our way there, we witnessed the indian procession. i forgot how it is called, but it's somehow the same as the self-flagellation we have on holy week. except that this is supposed to be a joyous event for them, and the reason why they pierce themselves with needles is because they cannot feel pain, in the belief that the gods dwell in their bodies.

[ warning, not for the weak of heart. read: neil ]

ang pinaka-indian sa kanilang lahat. hehehe. my sister blended perfectly with the crowd, i wonder why...

Image hosting by PhotobucketImage hosting by Photobucket

for daisy. hehe. there are a lot of veggie restos but i wasn't able to try a single one.

the city. basta, i loved everything about it. it's so artsy fartsy i love it. hehe. their schools are very nice as well, i even saw this fashion design school where they actually showcase their students' designs on a window, parang window shop talaga sa mall. and everything is so clean. if only our country was that orderly. i know at least some of our local officials try their best to create disciplined individuals, but sometimes their attempts just prove to be futile. [ hello, painting the guns white on movie billboards to quell violence? drenching passersby with wet towels so they wouldn't clog the walkways? creating a less than a meter sidewalk in an already narrow street? ]. but the fact that some country was able to improve like that means its doable. i hope we had a better government. i hope i can do something about it. i hope i pass loc gov. gah.

  long day
before anything else, i'd like to greet JONEL and CLAUDETTE belated happy birthday! [ they both celebrated their bday yesterday ]

today was a busy day, the highlight [ highlight?? ] of which was the locgov finals. haaaay. i know it's all over and i can't do anything about it, and i already lifted it up to God because it's really beyond my control right now, but i just can't get the thought that i might repeat the subject out of my head. the exam was terrible. it was a simple true/false exam, but each question was tricky and can be argued either way. plus, there were just a few items so it would be difficult to get a passing mark of 60% [ at least for me ].

oh well. that's that.

in other news, last night was jonel's [ drumroll ] 25th birthday dinner. [ for some reason, i wasn't exactly as pressured as i should be about the locgov finals that i still found time last night to drop by jonel's house ] one of the constant things in my life since first year college is jonel's annual birthday dinner, and i'm proud to say i've never missed a single one. o diba. hehe. i didn't actually know that the rest of the harkadah was coming, i decided to go with joy in any case. but i was glad when i found out they're going. i haven't seen them since christmas season. and i also felt that i needed the company, especially since i've been feeling too confined in my own little space lately.

hehe, jonel, tama bang gayahin si romar and jana?

Image hosting by Photobucket

joy and me

take note, everyone [ well almost ]'s wearing white, as requested by the celebrant. hehe. the food was great, and i ate a lot as always.

another reason to smile about: i already got my starbucks planner! [ like i don't have enough hardbound books to carry around already ] thanks weki! i already missed a month but who cares.. i was all excited to write and post whatever on the planner, but when i opened it, it looked so beautiful that i didn't want to desecrate it with my lousy doodles.

well, 'felt like camwhoring, so here are some pics from this morning's dawn watch and the *ehe* pre and post-locgov exam. i've always had this habit of taking as much pictures as i can; somehow i feel that when there's absence of proof of pics/other form of documentation, it's like the event never happened at all. [ because of which, i've always kept this song line in mind - from john mayer's song, 3x5: "today I finally overcame tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame. i've loved that song since i first heard it years ago. ]

dawn watch

this is my 3rd consecutive week of joining dawn watch. i was apprehensive about going today, especially since we have the locgov finals and i needed time to study. but at 5 am i was already up. i couldn't go back to sleep even if i tried to, which is pretty unlikely, since the night before i arrived late, leaving me with only 4 hours of sleep. and i never resort to 4 hours of sleep unless extreme circumstances compel me to. and i still have enough energy to keep me awake till this hour. yes, only divine intervention can keep me awake this long. hehe. but i'm glad that i attend dawn watch constantly; i need to be reminded of God's presence in my life in the middle of the week. it's just good to start the day with a fresh perspective, without feeling listless and burdened about law school life. and it's nice to have an LSS of inspiring songs from praise and worship the whole day/week [ that surely beats having to involuntarily hear sam milby's 'close to you' over and over in my brain ]

[ plug na rin. hehe ] there's a dawn watch/prayer meeting at 6 am to around 7:30 at the sunken garden stage. open to UP students/ alumni or whoever. drop by if you can :D

  again, random thoughts

since my life has been pretty uneventful lately, i'll be posting nothing but incoherent ramblings.

the past week was ok. i was proud that last wednesday i was able to attend the 6 am prayer meeting, attend class, study a bit after, go to the gym for aero at 4:30 and then play disc at 8 pm. i pushed myself to the limit and felt proud that i did so. normally, i would be feeling sleepy come lunch time, but i realized that only happened before because i was forced to study. i didn't know i still had the capacity to run around the field at 10 in the evening. i guess if you really like what you're doing you'll have enough energy to keep you up and about, no matter how physically strenuous it is.

i wasn't really supposed to go to the ultimate disc beginners' night. i planned to go with joan, but she backed out a few hours before, so i was seriously considering not to go because i didn't know anyone there. i decided to go anyway, and i was glad i did, since i was able to play and got to meet new people. i even saw familiar faces, and i saw a friend i met before in san lo beginners' night [ we started playing around the same time, but she joined a team and she's really good now. i'm so envious. hehe. and i'm still a perpetual beginner. pfft :P ]. i hope i could go back next week.

also, last thursday, we had dinner at a veneto libis, the first P3,000 + 3 bottles of wine sponsored by our tax 2 prof. hehe. this is the second time any of our profs treated us for dinner, which is good. i just hope this isn't an advanced atonement for upcoming killer exams. and before that, i was called for recit in his class. it didn't turn out bad, thank God, considering i didn't study much for it the night before. well, it's ok except for the part where he made me stay in front of the whole class and i was standing there for a good 10 minutes [ or more? ]. i tried to escape, but to no avail. agh. i still felt like a complete idiot even if i didn't really say anything stupid.

my life has actually been a roller coaster lately - i've been getting my share of ups [ new friends, new interests, good food, good time with friends ] and downs [ irritating people, irritating situations, stupid self, bad recits, feelings of fat-ness and being unglamorous. i need exercise, diet and diamond peel!! ], and i'm expecting more to come for the next days. we're having the locgov finals on wednesday, the singapore trip this weekend, single-awareness day next week, concurrent with the civpro midterms. the locgiv finals is the make or break exam for me *cringe*. i really need all the prayers i can get. and for some strange reason, i don't have the motivation to study for it.. i don't feel pressured to study when i should be pushing the panic button by now since i'm not even done with half of it. haaaay. re. love month, media is once again infested with cheezy ads. close-up sure has a way to make singles feel utterly bitter. haha. and there are also tons of concerts and other events this weekend aside from the annual lovapalooza. i'm glad that i'll be out of the country on valentine's weekend.

owayt. need to go to study now.
